The FCC license for KRSH-FM/Overland is probably forfeit and lost to the school forever because of the Ritenour Consolidated School District's failure to "timely file a license renewal application for the Station" and for willfull and repeated violations of Section 301 of the Communications Act, by engaging in unauthorized operation of the Station after its authorization had expired in 2004.

According to the FCC, Ritenour Consolidated School District is liable for a fine of $7,000 and loss of the operating license.

Letting a learning resource like this station be lost because of their inattention to the legalities is inexcusable behavior on the part of the school district, especially after three years of warnings.

Most high school stations are equipped with surplus gear donated and maintained by local radio stations with installed by, or at least guided by, local professionals. That's a part of the learning experience.

Many school stations have guidance from commercial stations in all aspects of their operation, from setup through programming.

It's not unusual for students who excel at involvement in a school's radio program to go on to work in broadcasting professionally.
