About/FAQ's...

Q: You also publish STLMedia.net. What's the difference between this site and that one?
A: STLMedia.net has been, since 2000, essentially reportage on current media affairs and commentary from my personal perspective on radio, tv and print media in St. Louis. We also occasionally publish rumors and newstips, sent anonymously through this page (even we don't know their origin; it's called plausible deniability).
   STLMediaReview will present reportage and commentary on three levels:
   -- factual and unbiased examination of and commentary on local radio, tv and print media from an STL perspective;
   -- factual and unbiased examination of and commentary on national radio, tv and print media from an STL perspective;
   -- factual and unbiased examination of and commentary on all radio, tv, print, SatRad, cable, SatTV, and WiMax trends and services from an inside perspective, from anyone within those industries.
   -- Both STLMedia.net and STLMediaReview.com will share space at the StlMedia Message Board, where you can share your thoughts and comments on any subject discussed on either website or create a new discussion area. Note that registration is required for Message Board participation, and that registration is not always open. You'll need to check back in occasionally or pay attention to the Front Page to be made aware of open registration periods.

Q: Will there be a political slant to the site's content?
A: No. It'd be self-defeating to do so and would reduce our potential readership by half. All political viewpoints are welcome as long as the "prime directive" of the presentation of hard and provable facts is respected. Hint: Blogs and news sources from either side of the political spectrum are not necessarily always representative of the facts. Please dig a little deeper, okay?

Q: How often will you publish?
A: 24/7/365. This is an online publication only and we have no plans to ever take it to print. New material will appear at the website as soon as it's vetted and appropriately formatted for the site.

Q: May I include audio and video segments and still photos with my article?
A: Yes...that's why an online Review like this is infinitely better than a print-only version. Audio and video submissions should be pre-edited and sent in MP3 and MPG or WMV formats; they will be converted to elements for online presentation presuming acceptable quality.
   Still photos should be submitted as digital files (usually .jpg's) and included with the article. If you don't have a digital camera, you can send non-returnable prints by snail mail and we will scan them into the appropriate format and include them in your written material.
   Please email us for advice before sending such files.

Q: Does an article I author have to appear over my real name? How about the names of my sources? That may cause a problem for me at work.
A: We would obviously prefer that you sign your name. But we will discuss your situation with you and if it truly appears that your job would be at jeopardy, we will allow you to use an assumed name for specific articles.
   But you must provide your real name and contact information with any submission to STLMediaReview, along with source contact information, for our records. We will never disclose such information to anyone without a court order.

Q: Will I be paid for my writing and other submissions?
A: Initially, no. But we areseeking advertisers. When and if advertisers sign on, and we accumulate a sufficient bag'o'loot, we will use that income to pay contributors from that point on. You will not get rich from any income you receive from STLMediaReview but you will at least know that your work is appreciated (and maybe you can buy some beer and a pizza).

Q: Aah! So you will accept advertising! How will that affect your editorial policy?
A: Ads are welcome here; it's how we intend to "pay the freight". We will be less selective than other Reviews in the advertising we accept, but all advertisers should be aware that their purchase of ad placement on the website will never have any effect on site content.

Q: Will there be editorial oversight?
A: Of course, and by grownups and everything. All submitted material will be reviewed for fact presentation and for source authenticity. It would also help if you understood the concept of defamation. Our lawyer would also appreciate it.
